PROFILE

James Geier is the principal consultant and founder of Wireless-Nets, Ltd. His 25 years of experience includes the analysis, design, implementation, installation, and support of numerous wireless network solutions for enterprises, hospitals, universities, airports, warehouses, and product manufacturers worldwide. James is the author of over a dozen books, including Implementing 802.1X Security Solutions (Wiley), Deploying Voice over Wireless LANs (Cisco Press), Wireless LANs (SAMS), Wireless Networks (Cisco Press), Wireless Networking Handbook (Macmillan), and Network Reengineering (McGraw-Hill). He is the author of numerous tutorials and other publications and has developed and instructed dozens of training courses on wireless networking topics. James has been active within the Wi-Fi Alliance, responsible for certifying interoperability of 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless LANs. He has also been active with the IEEE 802.11 Working Group, responsible for developing international standards for wireless LANs. He served as Chairman of the IEEE Computer Society, Dayton Section, and Chairman of the IEEE International Conference on Wireless LAN Implementation.

Principal Consultant and Founder – Wireless-Nets, Ltd. (Apr 2000 - present)

• Provides technical consulting services to municipalities and companies worldwide developing and deploying wireless network and cellular solutions. 

• Integrates OEM wireless modules into mobile devices, such as hospital patient monitors, data collectors and robots, for product developers.

• Designs large-scale wireless LANs and performs signal coverage and security assessments for enterprises and municipalities.

Director, Wireless System Solutions - Monarch Marking Systems (Aug 1996 – Mar 2000)

• Managed and provided technical direction for the development, implementation, installation and operational support of wireless network solutions for hundreds of healthcare, retail, and manufacturing customers worldwide.
• Developed comprehensive marketing plans describing market trends, product definitions, pricing, distribution channels, and sales and advertising methods for wireless solutions and products. 

Senior Engineer - TASC, Inc. (Mar 1994 to Jul 1996)

• Developed and implemented an enterprise-wide computer network for Dayton Power and Light to support the migration from mainframe to client/server systems. 
• Designed an information system architecture that supports internal and external communications for the U.S. Navy’s NSSN attack submarine. 
• Analyzed requirements for hardware, software, and support of the Joint Logistics Systems Center (JLSC) Materiel Management Standard System (MMSS) for the combined U.S. militaries. 

Senior Engineer - Adroit Systems, Inc. (Aug 1992 to Feb 1994)

• Researched and analyzed emerging network technologies as part of the Department of Defense Airborne Reconnaissance Data Link Architecture (ARDA) study, supporting communications for airborne systems. 
• Developed a software tool that aids network engineers in planning, upgrading and maintaining shipboard computer networks - based on a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) government grant obtained from the U.S. Navy. 

Operational Support Manager – Information Systems Center, U.S. Air Force (Feb 1992 - Jul 1992) 

• Managed operational support for Wright-Patterson AFB’s 15,000-user wide area network, consisting of numerous LANs and worldwide network connections. 
• Developed operational support guidelines and practices for field service, network security and network monitoring. 

Systems Engineering Manager - Information Systems Center, U.S. Air Force (May 1991 - Jan 1992) 

• Managed and provided technical direction for the migration of 15,000 users from a centralized mainframe environment to distributed PC-LAN client server system. 
• Represented the Air Force as part of the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN standards development.
